Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) has a strategic role in shaping the character of students who are moderate, tolerant, and have noble morals. This article discusses the strategy for developing an attitude of tolerance in PAI learning as an effort to create a moderate generation that is able to live harmoniously in a diverse society. This study uses a qualitative approach with literature study methods and descriptive analysis. The results of the study indicate that the integration of tolerance values in PAI learning can be done through a contextual approach, dialogue-based learning, and internalization of diversity values in teaching materials. In addition, the role of educators is very crucial in instilling an attitude of mutual respect and rejecting extremism in religion. The implementation of this strategy is expected to produce a generation that has an inclusive understanding of religion, is open-minded, and is able to become agents of peace in a multicultural society
